When leaving the Fox & Hounds, if you need to go in a southerly direction, you can only go south on the A1(M) by firstly taking the northbound carriageway, and then going over the Bedale flyover to take the southbound carriageway.

There is a pretty country route south. Turn left from the Fox & Hounds, then take the first right down Whinwath Lane to Kirklington. Once there, follow the signs.
